CLANDESTINE DEVICES
Photo Retoucher / Graphic Design / Production Art
One of my longer stints at a company was with Medina Inc. / Clandestine Devices as a photo retoucher, graphic designer, and production artist.
When I started at the company, my main duties included photo retouching, image processing (thumbnails, captions, batch processing, etc.), and video editing. All of these were duties I had previously, so transitioning into this role was a perfect fit for me. I particularly enjoyed the video editing aspect of the job. I would take longer clips, add bumpers, and export them to various chapters and formats. I quickly developed my own method for doing the job, which allowed me to free up more of my time for other tasks.
The company expanded to include physical product sales, and I took on a more design-driven workload. I helped design the majority of print ads for the company, which were featured in magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Marie Claire, and more. With no creative director at the company, it was at my discretion to come up with layouts and designs for all materials.
I was initially hired as a photo retoucher but was given more tasks due to my knowledge in various skills. My duties included video editing, image production work, video and image file management duties, print design, and social media. The company was small, so there was no opportunity for advancement. I wanted to learn more and explore different opportunities with the goal of someday reaching a more advanced role, so I felt it was time for me to move on.
